Tigist Helen Schmidt is an Ethiopian-German multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles.
Her work spans photography, film, painting, textile, sound, sculpture, text, installation, and performance, marked by a unique ability to distill complexity into lyrical, poetic form. A formal restraint underpins her practice, through which questions of identity, memory, and the unseen are articulated with subtlety and nuance.
She holds a Master’s degree from Goldsmiths, University of London, and is a former fellow of the Tribeca Film Institute and the Independent Film Project. She is also an alumna of the Identity School of Acting, Los Angeles.
